Central Offices being relocated from Kramer to Windham High School

April 24, 2018

While our schools were closed for April break, more central office departments were relocated out of Kramer to temporary spaces within Windham High School.

Starting this week, the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Operations, ESOL, Bilingual Education and World Languages Department, and Public Information have joined the Human Resources Department, Pupil Services, Food Services, Maintenance, Information Technology and Family and Community Partnerships departments at the high school campus.

The only remaining central office departments at the Kramer location are the Accountability, Performance and Assessment and Finance departments.

Although we are still settling in – unpacking boxes, connecting printers and installing door locks – we  are up and running.  None of this could have happened without the effort of Facilities Director Wayne Donaldson and his crew of Groundskeepers, Maintenance and Custodial staff.  This entire staff worked long hours to prepare the new space, and to move us in throughout the week.  I cannot thank them enough for their cheerful attitudes and patience.  We also want to acknowledge the Information Technology Department who quickly reconnected everyone through phones and computers.

I invite you to stop by to say hello, and to see our new space. There will be two conference rooms here in our offices which will be available for meetings, but it will be several weeks before they are completed.

The Central Office entrance is located adjacent to the Windham High School staff parking lot, and is marked by directional signs.  Visitor parking spots are available near the new entrance.  Visitors can enter the Board of Education’s Central Office through the glass doors.

The Windham Early Childhood Center, located on the first floor of Kramer, will move to the Windham Middle School campus during the summer after the end of the school year.  The Board of Education, therefore, is on target to vacate by the August 1 deadline as requested by the Mayor and the Town Council last spring.

The Windham Board of Education’s central office and the Windham Early Childhood Center will both ultimately be relocated within the renovated high school as part of the major building project currently being coordinated by the building committee.

Another section of the new central office space is ready, so the Information Technology and Human Resources Departments are transitioning to their new offices at Windham High School immediately.

As you are aware, central office departments are moving from the Kramer building over the next several months.  As you can imagine, this move is very complex and it is our intention to keep everyone as informed as possible in order for the process to have the least impact on the operation of the school district.

The Facilities, Food Services, Pupil Services, and Family and Community Engagement Departments have already relocated to Windham High School.

The entrance to the new central offices area is through the side door beyond the loading dock on the staff parking side of Windham High School. The red door is marked with signage: Central Office Staff Entrance.  Enter using your staff ID badge, or press the doorbell there to be buzzed into the building.

Human Resources Department

Over the coming weekend, the Human Resources Department will be moving to Windham High School.

Starting at noon on Friday, March 23 until Monday afternoon, March 26 communication with this department may be delayed because extensions will be disconnected.  Staff may also have limited access to district email. Please be patient. It may be a few days before everything is fully functional.

An HR department staff person will remain at Kramer in Conference Room 236 for the week of March 26 to receive Timesheets, and handle or redirect queries.

To meet with Human Resources at their new location, please buzz the door and someone from HR will meet you, or call 860-465-2305.  Inter-office mail to Human Resources should still specifically be directed to Human Resources Department-Kramer, not yet to the high school directly.

 Information Technology

The Information Technology Department has also been moving to Windham High School this week.

Technology help tickets should be submitted by staff in the usual way.  The department can be reached at 860-465-2330.

Visitors to the Information Technology Department should please buzz the door as directed above.

Inter-office mail to IT should still specifically be directed to Information Technology-Kramer, not yet to the high school.

Next Steps

The next push on this project is to prepare space for a move of several departments, including the Office of the Superintendent, over April break.  Finance is scheduled to be the last department to move.  The goal is to have the central office move complete as soon as possible to free up resources and staff to relocate the Windham Early Childhood Center after school is out.

Construction is also going on at Windham Middle School in preparation for the Early Childhood Center moving there over the summer.  Parents were informed before the holiday break that some classrooms utilized by Thread City were relocated to other parts of the building so renovation could begin.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we embark on this project. We realize that there may be some inconveniences but will work to keep these to a minimum.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Mary Rival in the Assistant Superintendent’s office at extension 2526.
