Winter Sports update

Hello WMS Parents and Students,

We are happy to announce that Windham Middle School will be offering basketball for boys and girls this winter. It will look considerably different than previous years and I wanted to give you as much information as possible as to what to expect during the tryout phase. Due to the unpredictable and every-changing nature of the times we live, any of this information may be changed at any time, and all steps will be taken to ensure that we have a safe and successful season. The tryout schedule, as it is planned right now, is as follows:

Boys tryouts

8th grade - Thursday, 2/18 - 3:00pm-5:00pm
7th grade - Friday, 2/19 - 3:00pm-5:00pm
6th grade - Monday, 2/22 - 3:00pm-5:00pm

Girls tryouts

Tuesday, 2/23 - 3:00-5:00
Due to new COVID protocols, there will be a few changes to how tryouts and the season are conducted.

Tryouts will start at 3pm and end at 5pm. Please be on time when dropping off and picking up your child.
All players who try out must have, and wear, a mask at all times. Players will wear masks while they play, and also while they are sitting on the bench.
Fans/Spectators will NOT be allowed this year. We will attempt to live-stream the games (details are being work out)
Parents will drop their students off outside the gym doors on the day of tryouts, as students are the only ones permitted inside the school.

All students will submit to a temperature check and health screening questionnaire before being allowed inside the building.
As stated in the ParentSquare posts, students will need extra documentation this year in order to try out. They need to have, before the first day of tryouts:

  • Permission slip/emergency contact form
  •
  • COVID informed consent waiver
  •
  • Health record form
  • An up-to-date physical, on file with the nurse

**In addition to these documents, students need to be in good academic standing and attending classes to participate in winter sports. Specific information about our academic policy and expectations can be found on the WMS website under ‘Athletics ->Forms -> Student-Athlete Handbook.’**

Unfortunately, any student who does not have all of these items on the day of their tryout, or fulfill their academic obligations, will not be allowed to try out.

We hope to see you out there!
