Neil Weathers appointed Acting Assistant Superintendent

At the November 13 meeting, the Windham Board of Education voted to appoint Neil Weathers as Acting Assistant Superintendent for the Windham Public School district.

Mr. Weathers will be assisting Acting Superintendent Dr. Tracy Youngberg through the end of the 2019-20 school year while also carrying on his responsibilities as Director of Accountability, Performance and Assessment.  He was also named Director of Math earlier in the school year.

Mr. Weathers has supervised the Accountability office at Windham Public Schools since 2015.  He is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the district’s assessment system including state assessments, district benchmarks and progress monitoring assessment, and often presents district data to the Board of Education. His department is responsible for generating, collecting, and analyzing data in a timely manner for reports required by the Connecticut State Department of Education including AllianNeil Weathers Acting Asst Suptce District reports.

Dr. Youngberg recommended Mr. Weathers for the role of Acting Assistant Superintendent because of his close work with her in the Office of Teaching Learning and Leadership overseeing instruction, coaching and curriculum development.  Mr. Weathers led the committee to establish Standards-Based Report Cards through grade 5 district-wide, aligning classroom expectations with state standards so parents can be more closely informed of their students’ progress and skills mastery. He oversees the district monitoring of student achievement, growth, chronic absenteeism and discipline data.

“Neil has worked closely with me over the past four years in curriculum and staff learning, and I know that he will continue to carry forward the instructional improvements we are making in the district,” says Dr. Youngberg.  “He has a strong, trusting relationship with all the building principals, our school-based coaches and the teachers.  I am confident our focus and progress with student achievement will continue under Neil’s leadership.”

Prior to coming to Windham Public Schools, Mr. Weathers served for 15 years in Meriden Public Schools, starting as a Math Resource Teacher, and over time was promoted to Supervisor of Mathematics and Science.  In Meriden, another Alliance district, he was instrumental in formalizing curriculum to push the math department forward including staff development.

Mr. Weathers received his Sixth Year Educational Leadership certification from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.  A native of Waterbury, Weathers also attended Central Connecticut State University where he received his Bachelors in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics and science, and his Master’s degree in Elementary Education.
